Women’s Ministry

Lidia Schiopu coordinates the Women’s Ministry of EBE Romania.

She was discipled and trained through the ministry of BEE International (now Entrust) missionaries, having been a part of the their first women’s group in Timisoara in 1986. In the beginning she participated in the group out of a desire to study for herself. But as her life changed, she felt the responsibility to pass on to other women what she had learned. In 1995 she gave up her job to dedicate herself to serving other women. For more than two years she depended totally on God, experiencing His faithfulness every day. In 1998 she was asked to coordinate Women’s Ministry for EBE Romania and to work in the same way with women of all evangelical confessions.

Lidia’s passion is to see women growing in maturity, serving other women, and living their lives for the glory of God.

She is a member of Aletheia Church in Timisoara and has been married for 40 years to Dorel with whom she has four children, each of them married. Lidia and Dorel now rejoice in the birth of their first grandson. Lidia travels often and loves flowers.

With what do we occupy ourselves? The department of Women’s Ministry in EBE Romania is occupied with equipping and forming women to minister to other women. We desire for our churches mature women who are equipped for service, women who, having discovered their gifts, contribute to the expansion and edification of Christ’s Church. We desire this all the more because we know that over 60% of those in our churches are women. What a fantastic potential, but one that has been neglected.

What can women do? Paul wrote to Titus and gave him clear, specific instructions for the way in which each segment of the church is to be involved. At one point he says: But I desire that older women

“may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the Word of God will not be dishonored” (Titus 2:4-5).

What do we do? We want to fulfill this command by equipping women who will teach others how to live lives that bring honor to God, how to become disciple makers—the mandate of every Christian! For this we create and share a context in which women can grow spiritually and be equipped: small groups for discipleship and growth, seminars, conferences, counseling, and mentoring. We work across denominational lines with all evangelical churches, foregoing differences and rejoicing over that which we share in common. In fact, among us denominational barriers have fallen, and we have learned to accept one another, to respect one another, and to serve one another. We know that we are part of the same, unique Church, Christ’s Church, and we are preparing ourselves as His bride!

At a time in which Christians tend to borrow the world’s values, we desire to transmit our values to the generation in which we invest: We believe that Intimacy with God is vital, we want to live lives of Integrity, we want to be Teachable, to work together as a Team, we want to serve under the Authority of the local Church, and in all that we are and do, we want to be Dependent on God!

With the eyes of faith, I can see how God is raising a generation of “women who bring the Good News”, who will live so as to make a difference for HIM in this country and to the ends of the earth.
